BEN DE LISI?is giving the humble hospital gown a makeover. The mainstream designer - who has likewise been signed up by?Debenhams to relaunch the Principles brand - has teamed up with the Department of Health in collaboration with the Design Council in a bid to cultivate patient solitude and dignity.

"Why would a designer famous as glamorous evening gowns be competent of designing a hospital gown?" asks De Lisi, who persuaded the Department of Health with sketches of an evening gown morphing into a night shirt.?"The antique gown was mortifying, ill-fitting and probably ill-making also," he told?The Week. "You are away from home, ill and in hospital and you must dress this horrific garment with your arse hanging out. Give me a crash."
"The current gown is uni######. It has access points throughout the garment of the body. If somebody is waiting aboard a ward for a test alternatively x-ray, their modesty is kept in check. It does no open up the behind," the designer tells this morning's G2.
