What is it about shoes that draw people to them? Both woman and men find owning multiple shoes a hobby it seems. I decided to take a few moments; do some research into the curious shoe world and share what I found. Of course this is just my own thoughts as I personal don't share this fascination. My only concern about the shoes I own are; are they comfortable. Let's use that as a start, I can see why someone would buy a pair of shows for that reason; It makes sense. After all we want comfortable shoes and need a few pairs to wear for various occasions. I own perhaps 5 pairs total; boots, dress shoes, sneakers
nike air jordan heels, sandals and another pair of old wore out sneakers. That's a reasonable amount I feel; especially considering that most of the time I just wear my sandals everywhere. I like my toes to have breathing room. I imagine most of us have at least that many shoes laying around. Some of us have a lot more though.
So what is it that makes these people keep on buying more when the rest of us stop at 5 or six. We could give one reason for this as a need to have a shoe that fits every occasion. While some of us have one shoe that performs many functions all at once; others may feel the need to separate those activities out and have a different shoe for each kind of thing they do. This could give reason to own a lot of shoes as the different things we might do in a day, week, or month can be a very large list. Once you have all these shoes the only problem will be remembering which one you bought for what.
Another reason I have heard people give; has to do with their wardrobe. We have different outfits; and we want to look good; so why not have shoes to match right? Sure! That may be a good reason to have more shoes for some but I do not think it really justifies having more shoes than you could possibly wear. If you know someone that collects shows you will agree that they just don't have many they have a never ending supply. Take Oprah for example. She has featured her shoe collection multiple times on both TV and in her magazine. You cannot possible wear that many shoes at least once each in a year. So while this reason of matching your wardrobe may work for a few dozen shoes; I doubt it can be taken much further than that.
So we have explored activities and wardrobes as reasons to collect shoes; What's left? How about buying shoes for the pure joy of owning so many different styles. I believe this is probably the most compelling reason people will buy shoes. The names and styles are almost endless
air jordan dress shoes, and there are some people that go wild over them. It may be a more common Nike or Reebok; Or a designer brand like Louboutan, Choo, or Blahnik. Which ever ones match your taste it is not surprising that people will do almost anything to get their hands on them. Once you do have these special shoes they become the highlight of your collection. They are probably the least worn of your collection as well; and there mainly to show off to your friends. With this reason of owning shoes we can easily see why so many will go all out to get more.
Between all three of the reasons discussed above I am sure we could all have a closet full of shoes. Of course for many of us; as said before; having a few is more than plenty. For now I'll just sit back and enjoy the comfort of what I have and let others do the collecting and ogling over shoes. Look for my next article on shoes, "Shoes priced for you, or for a name!".
Levels of support Running shoe manufacturers say that each of their models of running shoe will fall broadly within one of four levels of support - Neutral, Mild-Support, Moderate-Support and Motion Control. In reality, there are as many different levels of support as there are different models of running shoe and subtle differences in the structure of different models will mean that they are more or less supportive than others.
What level of support do I need? This is a very complex question....For a quick analysis (often referred to as a 'gait-analysis'), pop into to your local running shoe shop, where they should be able to assess the broad category of support you need. For a more thorough analysis, contact a sports podiatrist or a University with a specialist Sports Science/Bio-mechanics department.
In respect of the more specialist analyses, you will usually be advised to purchase a specially moulded orthotic inner-sole, which will include specific support to assist your own unique foot-strike. Orthotics can cost hundreds of pounds, though unless you have a very unusual foot-strike, have unusual physical characteristics (e.g. one leg longer than the other) or you have suffered from prolonged injuries, these will usually be unnecessary. Ask the podiatrist/expert to recommend some specific supportive running shoes or, if they consider orthotics to be necessary, ask them to outline in detail the specific problem the orthotics will solve and the reasons why a supportive running shoe will not solve it.FACTOR 4: FIT The fit of running shoes produced by different manufacturers
nike high heels sneakers, and even different models produced by the same manufacturer, can differ substantially in terms of the length, width, depth and general shape. This is why it is crucial to try on a shoe before you commit to buying it.
