Default London Underground | Animal Estates, London Edition - NYTimes.com

Designers are used to designing for people, but what if the client was an animal? I'm not talking about designing a kennel for your dog, but rather homes for all the animals that are native to our cities, 成都兼职 yet which are often forgotten. Can the birds and the bees, the kestrels and the beetles, all be accommodated in the concrete jungle? This is what the artist Fritz Haeg is encouraging us to think about at the “Animal Estates London HQ: Urban Wildlife Client Services.” On display until Jan. 20 are examples of animal estates for bees, stag beetles, bats, house sparrows and more breeds that are native residents of London. These are all simple D.I.Y. dwellings that can easily be put together at home. Haeg has invited guest designers to present their work, including Amy Pliszka's prototypes for designer bee houses and Arup Associates' Insect Hotel. Birds are already living in 51% Studios' Nestworks for Urban Birds across Bankside in south London. And the minimalist style of the bat houses presented by the Bat Conservation Trust 网络兼职 would complement even the most modern (human) home. Installed in the Arup Phase 2 ############## at 8 Fitzroy Street, Haeg's project is much more than a static exhibition. At once an event space and a drop-in center, Animal Estates HQ is conceived as a place of exchange and dialogue for activists, architects, artists, city dwellers, designers, engineers, homeowners and planners. Its director, Joanne Bristol, is based at the reception desk — a tongue-in-cheek, handmade interpretation of Arup's sleek desk opposite — and is overseeing the program as well as initiating collaborations between academics and designers, thinkers and doers. There is a reference library, and volunteer 网赚教程 workstations show the findings and continuing research of animal-obsessed researchers. And the entire project is being expanded and enriched as more experts and enthusiasts share their knowledge. This is Haeg's eighth Animal Estates initiative (other locations have included San Francisco and Utrecht in the Netherlands), and he has a talent for immersing himself in the local environment. For this project, the designers Christian dior gaucho saddle bag usa Abake provided art direction, and the Architecture Foundation is running a competition for the design of urban beehives, bird/bat boxes and planters that will be mass produced and installed across the Central London neighborhoods of Holborn, Bloomsbury and St. Giles, in order to promote biodiversity in our cities.
