Thumbs up NFA Exclusive Interview with New Orleans Saints WR Jarred Fayson ...

NFA Exclusive Interview with New Orleans Saints WR Jarred Fayson Monday, August 15, 2011 NewOrleansSaints.comBy Robert Neely NFL Writer Training camps are the time when veterans get ready polo long sleeved for the season, and they’re also the time when players fight to earn roster spots and fulfill their NFL dreams. That’s no easy task, because of the 90 players on a training camp roster, only 53 will actually make the regular-season roster. For many players, and especially for undrafted players, the goal is to make an impression quickly in hopes of winning a job. Jarred Fayson is one of those undrafted rookies. The wide receiver from Illinois is trying to make the New Orleans Saints roster, and thus far he’s made a positive impression on training-camp onlookers. “At this point, I just want to go out every day and try to improve my game, do what I’m asked to do within the offense as far as making plays,” Fayson said. “Also (I’m trying to) just go out and make plays on special teams and do my job there and just build my resume and pray that I make the roster here with the Saints.” The lockout definitely didn’t help Fayson’s cause. He signed with the team just a couple of weeks ago, and that’s when he saw the playbook for the first time. “I’ve never taken the bar exam, but I’ve heard about it. I’d say it’s somewhere along those lines in a football format,” Fayson said of his playbook cram session. “No can control how crazy this year got with the lockout and everything. Now you’ve just got to go out, learn the playbook and get the job done.” Thankfully, Fayson has gotten help from New Orleans’ columbia clothing veteran receivers. “They’re a great group of guys. I’ve gotten pointers and tips from every last one of them,” Fayson said. “They’re very kind-hearted; they’re caring. They always help you better your game as far as playing wide receiver. “They want to win, so they’re going to tell you what it takes to win if you’re going to become a part of this organization.” That kind of support makes Fayson thankful he opted to sign with the Saints, instead of with another team like the Buccaneers and Bengals, who also pursued him after the lockout. “I heard it was a great organization to be a part of,” Fayson said. “(Head) coach (Sean) Payton and (quarterback) Drew Brees, they run a really good offense, they distribute the ball to receivers well. “It’s a team that wins. They’re about business and they’re about winning. That’s why I chose this organization.” His decision to join the Saints didn’t make Fayson’s cheap ralph lauren goal of winning a roster spot easy. The depth chart at wide receiver features veterans Marques Colston, Lance Moore, Devery Henderson, and Robert Meachem, along with others such as Courtney Roby and Adrian Arrington who have far more experience in the offense. “Anywhere you go in this league, you’ve got to go in and do it yourself from ground one just from work,” Fayson said. Fayson said he played about 15 snaps during the Saints’ preseason opener against the 49ers, and while he didn’t have a catch, he did have a special-teams tackle. “(The Saints) put a big emphasis on special teams,” Fayson said. “I’m going to try my hardest to be on every team and just go out there and do what I’m asked to do and make plays.” That’s what it will take for Fayson to get to wear a Saints uniform come the regular Why you should buy Ed hardy clothing | Cheap Ray Ban Sunglasses ... season. For now, the undrafted rookie will continue to look for opportunities and make the most of them. “My game is about making a play when the opportunity presents itself,” Fayson said.
