Thumbs up Unionized workers locked out at Toronto's St. Lawrence Centre

Beginning of Story Content The St. Lawrence Centre for the Arts in Toronto has locked out its unionized employees. (Courtesy St. Lawrence Centre) Management at a city-owned discount coach entertainment facility in Toronto have locked out their unionized employees. Negotiations between the Stage Technicians Union IATSE Local 58 and management at the St. Lawrence Centre for the Arts broke down early Saturday morning after months of trying to reach a new agreement. The centre's board of directors is hoping to change a clause in the current contract mlb jerseys for cheap that requires management to continue paying employees even if there is no work. General Manager Jim Roe says this is making it more expensive for arts groups in the city who want to use the space. "The decision to lock out our colleagues at IATSE fiendship bracelets Local 58 is one we do not take lightly," said Roe in a statement on the centre's website. "In order to ensure the services we offer Toronto's artistic community stay accessible and affordable, and in keeping with the direction from the City of Toronto to reduce costs and expenses, we are left with no other option." Representatives from IATSE Local 58 were not immediately available to comment. Roe says he received an email from the union and hopes to return to the negotiating table as soon as possible. In the meantime, he says they have a plan in place to continue operating as usual.
