Dell has announced a lower-cost model of its common Mini 10 netbook,
Microsoft Office Standard, which runs Ubuntu Linux. The Dell Inspiron Mini 10v sells for $300, supplying a 1.6GHz Intel Atom N270, 10-inch show, 120GB or 160GB difficult drive, along with a one.three megapixel webcam, the company says.

Unlike the comparable Dell Inspiron Mini ten netbook announced in February, which starts at $350, or Dell's before Mini twelve design, the Mini 10v utilizes the 1.6Ghz Atom N270 processor usually discovered on netbooks. Together with the Mini 10 (pictured under, at right) and Mini twelve, Dell had instead turned to Intel's Z5xx Atom CPUs ("Silverthorne").
Because the Z5xx Atoms are smaller sized, use significantly less energy, and mate with the integrated chipset that saves much more electrical power, they operate cooler and very last lengthier on batteries,
Microsoft Office 2007 Enterprise, says Dell. Furthermore, the N270 lacks the Z5xx-series' 720P High definition video capacity. Consequently, the Mini 10v also lacks the Mini 10's integrated HDMI (large definition multimedia interface) port and optional, not-yet-shipping Hd tuner. Dell also ideas to add a 2GB RAM alternative for that Mini ten, but not the 10v.
Although the screen is the exact same dimensions, the Mini 10v is just not an edge-to-edge exhibit much like the Mini ten, and its resolution tops out at 1024 x 576 pixels instead of the Mini 10's optional 720P exhibit, which supports 1366 x 768 resolution. Or else the two netbooks are nearly identical.
The Mini 10v provides 1GB of RAM, a 10/100 Ethernet port, a one.three megapixel webcam, a memory card reader,
Office 2007 Product Key, 3 USB ports, and audio I/O. The netbook is offered with possibly Ubuntu Linux eight.04 or Windows XP House, set up on 120GB or 160GB SATA tough disk drives.

Like the Mini 10, but in contrast to the Mini 9,
Windows 7 X64, the Mini 10v lacks an ExpressCard slot to get a 3G modem. However, the device's 802.11a/g/n and optional Bluetooth two.1 abilities are stated to get provided by way of PCI Mini Card slots. Such as the Mini ten, the 10v attributes a keyboard that is "92 percent the size of a regular keyboard."
