Comment on Teaching PronunciationAny effective foreign language course aims at developing the skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing. Each of these four skills is based on three main elements of language: pronunciation, vocabulary and grammar. Pronunciation is the first important category of the three. Besides, pronunciation is definitely the biggest thing that people notice when learners are speaking the foreign language. Therefore, in teaching a foreign language, pronunciation has always been an early obstacle to overcome.
Until now, we have already adopted three major approaches to pronunciation instruction, such as 1) intuitive-imitative approach; 2) analytic-linguistic approach; 3) integrative approach. The current used approach is integrative approach with its characters and goal as follows.
1) Pronunciation is viewed as an integral component of communication, rather than isolated drill and practice sub-skill.
2) Pronunciation is practiced within meaningful task-based activities.
3) Use pronunciation-focused listening activities to facilitate the learning of pronunciation.
4) There is more focus on the suprasegmentals of stress, rhythm, and intonation as practiced in extended discourse beyond the phoneme and word level.
5) Pronunciation is taught to meet the learners’ particular needs
However, according to the current situation of the learners’ pronunciation, instructors need to do more work to teach and improve learners’ learning skill. Here is the comment on how to teach and learn pronunciation.
In the course, knowledge of phonetics and phonology should be enhanced. That is to say,hugo boss, both instructors and learners should master some knowledge on phonetics and phonology. As matter of fact, the knowledge of phonetics such as the speech organ and function, the basic terminology which are useful for future self-instructed. Of course, the instructors are unnecessary to be as linguists, they would be more easily to instruct pronunciation with some basic knowledge of phonetics. For example, when instructing pronunciation, especially the fresh learner, three basic steps should be invited as mentioned before.

To achieve this, computer-based activities/programs of pronunciation instruction are necessary.
A. articulatory charts
B. sample words utilizing the targeted sound
C. minimal pairs/comparison of words
D. listening discrimination of minimal pairs within a sentence
E. sample sentences with several words utilizing the targeted sound
F. dictations
G. cloze exercises
H. suprasegmental exercises (including intonation, rhythm,new nike air forces, stress,nike shox r5, and timing)
In conclusion, though pronunciation has always been an early obstacle to overcome,dunk black, it should not be just only in the first few instruction lessons.
