The emulating pages embody a record of conversations with Mr. William Kay, which occurred during several visits that he made to the Department in 1957. William Kay was in the Physics Department from March 1895 until December 1945, and was, for most of the period, Steward. He was Rutherford's acolyte during the entire of the phase while Rutherford was Professor of Physics here, i.e. 1907 - 1919.

A memorandum above the transcript and commentary
I have attempted to give Kay's comments verbatim, merely I have eradicated a good numerous of my own remarks which were made simply with the object of stimulating Kay into giving his own reminiscences. Parts of the tape-recording from which this log has been obtained,air force 1 hight, are no clearly intelligible, and this accounts for the casual breaches. In one alternatively two cases the names of individuals are also no explicit in the recording, merely I consider namely the names that have been inserted are, in most cases, correct.
S. Devons
In preparing the transcripts of the Kay interviews for announcement in 1963, for he indicates in his introduction, Samuel Devons made a digit of small critique changes (including inferior additions and excisions), and added a digit of footnotes illuminating points in the text and indications of the speaker's identity during the course of potentially confusing talk. Speaker identifications have been added in square brackets as they seem in the 1963 announcement. In counting,DC shoes, Devons's original footnotes have been additional, and are indicated thus: [S.D.:] with Devons's 1963 txt. Other footnotes have been added along the present writer.
