How does meditation work? What are mantras?
In today’s crazy and busy world, one must learn to achieve inner and outer balance and it can be mind-challenging. According to the Yogic scriptures, they describe the mind as an “inner instrument”, retaining all memories, emotions, manifests our desires, hopes and manages our daily duties.
But how about the sub-conscious mind? ( The silent mind) It is often this mind that needs to be awakened … a place where your true self is hidden…
Meditation helps quieten the “busy” mind telling you what to do on your “to do” list and re-awaken your sub-conscious mind, the one where your true being resides in complete awareness and calmness. In meditation, you begin to wake up and develop an awareness of your breath, your surrounding, your calming and peaceful mind. A quiet shift in consciousness occurs, calming the emotional and mental distractions bringing you to a place of inner beauty and serenity…
How can we achieve this?
In Naada Yoga (yoga of sound), we use texts and/or words we call mantras. They are simply ancient sacred texts that we use in repetition to distract the mind from everything including the mind itself… and in a period of time (even 5 minutes) one can start feeling the focus shifted back to him/herself and start feeling good. We concentrate on the mantra text, sometimes even with a melody . It becomes easier and easier through repetition.
A simple Experiment will help you:
1-Focus on your breath… couple of minutes here until it becomes natural –without thinking anymore, just breathing
2-Begin to notice that you are not the “breather” but just witnessing the moment and sensations of the breath..
3-Slowly start chanting (monotone or silently is fine)
OM NAMA SHIVAYA (mantra for spiritual growth)
4- You will notice a quiet presence, if your busy mind is interfering, go back to focusing on your breath… stay here for a little longer…then begin with mantra
5- Continue resting and chanting the mantra for 5 minutes, (11 minutes better) watch yourself , witness what happens,
karen millen dresses, and let your true being awaken!
There is no better beauty than the beauty that resides within each one of us….Namaste
