SEF/SEO preventing template from operating (other than on property)

Hi every person,Vista & Win7 Self Diagnostics (for normal users),Windows 7 Professional 64,
completely new but have read all of the help/documentation and (nearly all) forum posts concerning SEF/SEO problems but i'm getting a particular dilemma that i can locate an solution to. (if this dilemma has currently obtained an response please let me know exactly where
using Siteground shared hosting
Joomla v1.five.seven (new install without any alterations/addtions)
when turn Seo url's on in world wide configuration (i've needed to alter htaccess.txt to .htaccess ) the performance works well.
the issue comes when i visit any other page around the site,Office 2010 Serial Number, the template fails to load and i've just the base content with out styling and so on...
some fixes i have already looked into:
- I've installed joomla around the root directory
- I've checked: apparently mod_rewrite is on in the server (nevertheless when i "uncomment" the mod_rewrite is on line in htaccess i get a server error 500 ((may this indicate that mod_rewrite is not on for my server?)))
- I've also tried "uncommenting" rewritebase \ in htaccess (i do not get a sever error 500,Key Office 2007, but this make no difference to the template dilemma)
I have found one other forum post with this dilemma,Office 2010 Standard Product Key, but no real details about what fixes they may have tried...
